Travel Medicine

In order to have a safe and enjoyable trip abroad we will provide you with the most up to date medical information required for your particular destination.

When travelling especially to the sun-drenched shores of Asia, Africa, Central and South America you may require vaccination against certain dangerous diseases as well as medicine to help prevent malaria. If you have been vaccinated previously you should review your cover before travelling again.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT PATIENTS SHOULD ATTEND FOR A CONSULTATION REGARDING TRAVEL VACCINATIONS AT LEAST 6 WEEKS BEFORE TRAVELLING, WHEN AT ALL POSSIBLE.

Vaccine preventable diseases include :

  • Hepatitis A/B
  • Polio
  • Tetanus
  • Diphtheria
  • Yellow Fever
  • Rabies
  • Typhoid

Remember when travelling to or from certain countries it is in fact compulsory to have certain vaccines e.g. Yellow Fever.
We  have a license to provide  the Yellow Fever vaccine. Please make an appointment to discuss your journey as soon as you know your itinerary in order to get your prescription for vaccines required and to plan your vaccination programme.
Some vaccine schedules should be started more than 2 months before travel.
However, should you not have the opportunity to attend well in advance  remember that partial cover is supremely better than no cover at all!

The consultation, as well as discussing Malaria prevention tablets and vaccinations, also deals with  advice about Diarrhoea / Vomiting and Sun Protection etc.
